The Waffle Stitch Crochet Dishcloth Pattern

As I was browsing Anthropologie, looking at all of their amazing kitchen items, I saw a set of waffle weave dishcloths, and I thought,”I want those.” There’s just something about that waffle texture.

And after that thought, my next thought came to me. Are you ready? Yep…”I Can Crochet That.”

I’ve been wanting to come up with a crochet pattern that would make a great gift. Whether it’s for a housewarming, a dorm gift, or Mother’s Day, these dishcloths are the perfect gift.

I love giving crochet washcloths as gifts and then mixing them in with a few other items, such as nice soaps and a soap tray or, for the kitchen, a wood pedestal and dish soap dispenser.

I Can Crochet That Pattern

Just stitch them up, put them in a pretty container, and they’re ready to gift- no wrapping necessary.

The Crochet Waffle Stitch

These dishcloths are whipped up using basic stitches: double crochet, front post double crochet, and single crochet for the edging.

Once you master the front post double crochet stitches, these will only take you about an hour to an hour and a half to make. They are so easy!

I love a pattern whipped up with simple, regular double crochet because it’s so satisfying to watch your project grow quickly.

Waffle Stitch Video Tutorial

Here’s a YouTube video tutorial showing you how to make crochet waffle stitch dishcloths.

The Colors + The Yarn

Update: Loops & Threads Creme Cotton yarn has been discontinued. I made new dishcloths using Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton.

You can purchase Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton at your local craft store, on Amazon.com here or LionBrand.com here.

Does it wash well? Care directions.

Speaking of using these dishcloths over and over. I didn’t want to give you a pattern for something to use in the kitchen and not test its durability.

So, I washed a few dishes, wiped down the counters, microwave, and stove with the cream-colored dishcloth, and then ran it through the wash.

How did it do? Great! Here are a few pictures of the dishcloth after use and going through the wash and dry cycle.

The dishcloth shrunk just a bit, making the stitches a little smaller and closer together. This resulted in a dishcloth that worked even better than before.

So rest assured you can give these as a gift and know they can actually be used for their intended purpose.
