The Tunisian full stitch has become one of my favorite crochet stitches. Not only is it beautiful, but it creates a texture like no other stitch.
Plus, when you add in two colors, things get really interesting!
After this Tunisian stitch tutorial, I’ll share with you the Tunisian full stitch blanket you’ll definitely want to try.
Tunisian Full Stitch Tutorial
For this Tunisian crochet stitch tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to do it in two colors. Why? Because that’s how I photographed and videoed it for a blanket pattern here on the site.
But, it also makes it a little easier for you to see where the stitches go, so that’s a bonus!
Written Instructions with Photos
Since some learn easier with photos and written instructions and some learn easier with video, I’ve done both.
Color A: Cream Colored yarn
Color B: Mandala
Foundation row: With color A, chain any number of stitches
Pull up a loop in the second chain from hook and in each chain to end
For return pass, switch to color B, ch 1, *yarn over and pull through two loops*, repeat from * to * all the way to the beginning of the row.
Row 1: Insert hook through the very first space between the two vertical bars, pull up a loop. Pull up a loop in each space between vertical bars until you get to the last space. SKIP the last space. Insert hook into edge stitch, under both side loops and pull up a loop.
For return pass, switch to color A, ch 1, *yarn over and pull through two loops*, repeat from * to * all the way to the beginning of the row.
Row 2: SKIP very first space, insert hook into second space between vertical bars and pull up a loop. Pull up a loop in each space between vertical bars, including the very last space. Insert hook into edge stitch, under both side loops and pull up a loop.
For return pass, switch to color B, ch 1, *yarn over and pull through two loops*, repeat from * to * all the way to the beginning of the row.
Continue repeating row 1 and row 2 for the rest of the pattern.
You are basically alternating skipping the last space between the vertical bars with skipping the first space between the vertical bars. When you skip the first space, you do not skip the last space. When you skip the last space, you do not skip the first space.

Here’s a video for those of you who learn best this way.
Tunisian Crochet Full Stitch Blanket Pattern
Here’s what a blanket looks like with two colors and Tunisian full stitch.
This is the Bryn blanket I designed using two different colors of yarn and the full stitch. I love how it turned out!
It’s a little thicker than the crochet camping blanket pattern I designed using Tunisian as well. We’ve traveled with the Bryn blanket in our campervan and it’s been the perfect thickness for nights outside by the fire or catching a sunset.
Here’s where you can find the Tunisian full stitch blanket pattern:
