The Ava throw crochet pattern is whipped up in an easy-to-learn Tunisian crochet stitch.

The unique stitch makes this a great throw for spring when the temps are just a bit cool, and a blanket with an open weave is just enough to keep you warm.

This pattern features a simple border and a one-row repeat finished off with beautiful rope tassels that give it that modern edge.

The Yarn

At the beginning of this year, Lion Brand announced their color of the year -Terracotta – and released several yarns featuring this beautiful color.

As soon as I saw they released this color in their popular Pound of Love line, I knew I needed to snatch a few up and make something with it.

The Lightweight Tunisian Crochet Blanket Pattern

One of the biggest complaints about Tunisian crochet is the fact that many of the stitches curl.

If you’ve made the Let’s Go Camping blanket yet, then you know how bad the knit stitch curls. But in my opinion, it’s so worth dealing with the curl when the end result is a gorgeous striped blanket!

I knew there were Tunisian stitches that did not curl, and I found one I loved. Plus, it’s so fun to work up projects in this stitch!

This pattern features a simple border, followed by a simple stitch that doesn’t curl and ends with these gorgeous rope tassels. This is the first time I’ve ever made rope tassels, and let me tell you, I am a fan!

• Order Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn on Amazon here or on LionBrand.com here. You’ll need two skeins
• You’ll need a 6 mm Tunisian crochet hook with at least a 12-inch cord or purchase a set like this one

With the index finger of your yarn hand, bring the working yarn to the front of your work; insert your hook under the next vertical stitch. Keep your hook behind the strand of working yarn. Yarn over (yo) and draw the yarn through the stitch.

Lts

insert hook under both vertical bars of the last stitch and complete as for Tunisian simple stitch

RetP

ch 1, (yo, pull through the next 2 loops) until only one loop remains on the hook

The mesh stitch makes this a great throw for spring when the temps are just a bit cool and a blanket with an open weave is just enough to keep you warm. This pattern features a simple border and a one-row repeat finished off with beautiful rope tassels that give it that modern edge.

Foundation row Ch 135

Pull up a loop in the back bump of the 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch, RetP.

Row 1 sk first vertical bar, tps across to last stitch, working the last st as for Lts, RetP

Rows 2 – 4 repeat row 1

Row 5 sk first vertical bar,*yo, sk next st, tss next st; repeat from * across, working the last st as for Lts, RetP

Rows 6 – 121 repeat row 5

Rows 122 – 125 repeat row 1 (for row 122, don’t forget you’re doing a tps stitch in each tss and each yarn over stitch – you should have 135 loops on hook for return pass)

Last row sl st in each vertical bar across row to bind off, inserting hook as for Lts on the last st. Fasten off.

For tassels

Cut 360 13 inch pieces of yarn, with 5 mm hook and 4 pieces of yarn held together, attach tassels on the ends every 3 sts

You should have 90 tassels total
