Free Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern
Without really planning it, I’ve basically been doing a Lion Brand’s Pound of Love yarn series.
Last week, I posted the pattern for this crochet waffle stitch blanket, which was made with Pound of Love yarn in Hunter Green. I used two skeins and the end result is a beautifully textured blanket in a color perfect for the holidays.
I have two more blanket patterns to post after this one, both using Pound of Love yarn.
I’ll probably end up saying this about each blanket pattern, but as of today, this is my favorite baby blanket pattern and pattern using Pound of Love yarn.
Between the stitches used and the bobble border, it was so much fun to make and the end result is a modern crochet baby blanket that is perfect for gift giving.
I’m giving this one to my niece Scarlett for her second birthday, but don’t tell her! 🙂
Linen Stitch How-to (or Moss Stitch)
This is the second blanket I’ve made using the linen stitch and it is definitely one of my favorite stitches for blankets, throws and afghans. If you like modern looking crochet blankets as much as I do, I highly recommend the linen stitch.
This stitch has many names, as you’ll find when it comes to quite a few crochet stitches. It’s called the linen stitch, the moss stitch, the seed stitch, the granite stitch and the woven stitch. Crazy, I know, but from here on out, we’re calling it the linen stitch.
For a video on the linen stitch how-to, this one is well done.
The basics of the linen stitch are it’s all about stitch placement. If you know how to do a chain and single crochet, then you’ll find this pattern super easy. Because that’s all it takes to master!
One each row, you’ll do a repeat of single crochet (sc), skip a stitch and make a chain. In the pattern it’s written (sk st, ch 1). And each row is also staggered. So on the next row, you’ll do a single crochet in the chain stitch space. Note: it’s not in the chain, it’s around it.
Linen stitch: sc in first ch-sp. *ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next ch-sp; repeat from * across row; ch 2, turn
The Bobble Border How-to
I tried several different borders for this baby blanket and the instant I tried the bobble edging, I knew it was the one.
For a video tutorial of the bobble border (or edging as it’s also called) go here.
Bobble border (edging) how to: Ch 6, in 3rd chain from the hook, *(yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 3 times, yarn over, pull through all 4 loops on hook*; chain 3, in the loop at top of cluster just made, repeat * to *; sl st around the chain 3 at the base of the first cluster.
The Colors + The Yarn
For this crochet baby blanket pattern, I used one skein of Lion Brand’s Pound of Love in Antique White and I had some leftover Pound of Love in Charcoal, which is what I used for the bobble border.
