Discover how to craft a stylish Tunisian crochet placemat using the intricate basket weave stitch. Follow our easy-to-understand pattern to add a homemade touch to your table settings.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about summer decor, outdoor dining, and warmer weather. I love to change up my tablescape with the seasons, and summer is one of my favorites!
I’ve been browsing through summer lookbooks from some of my favorite home decor companies and noticing similarities throughout. One of those being denim decor and blues in general.
I am all about that! It’s one of my favorite colors.
I had some leftover cotton yarn from the Tunisian crochet dishcloth pattern I made, so I thought, why not whip up some placemats?

Wet Blocking Instructions
To make these placemats lay flat, you will need to wet block them. Here’s an example of before and after wet blocking.
Before
After
Instructions:
To wet block, fill a sink or tub with warm water and add a couple of pumps of wool wash. (I use this one and love it!) Soak the placemat in the sudsy water for just a minute or two, making sure it’s nice and wet.
Gently wring out a little bit of the water, careful not to stretch it.
Place it on a towel and roll it up in the towel, squeezing as you go to get out some of the excess water. You don’t want it dripping wet, but you want it to still be damp.
Pin it down on a blocking board, being sure to straighten it out but not to stretch it. Let it dry completely.
Enjoy your new placemat!
