Tunisian Crochet Moss Stitch Video Tutorial
The Tunisian crochet moss stitch is a simple yet elegant stitch that creates a beautifully textured, woven-like fabric with a soft and cozy feel.
This beginner-friendly stitch alternates between Tunisian knit stitches, skipping a stitch and yarn overs, giving it a distinctive, grid-like look.
One of the standout benefits of the moss stitch is its natural resistance to curling, making it ideal for projects like blankets, scarves, and home decor.
Whether you’re new to Tunisian crochet or looking for a relaxing stitch with a stunning finish, the Tunisian moss stitch is the perfect choice!
One question I get quite a bit is what the back of the project looks like. This stitch is a little different than most Tunisian stitches, and I actually love the way the back looks.
Here’s the front:
And here’s the back:
The back resembles the Tunisian crochet smock stitch, and I think it’s just beautiful!

Row 1 Tks in first vertical bar, *yo, sk st, Tks* , rep from * to * to last st, working the last st as for Lts, RetP
Row 2 *yo, sk st, Tks*, rep from * to * until 2 sts remain, yo, sk st, working the last st as for Lts, RetP
THE PATTERN
Yarn A: Dark Teal
Yarn B: Burgundy
Yarn C: Steel Blue
Yarn D: Purple
At the beginning of each color change, you will start from the outside of the cake. After that cake is finished and you’re ready to start the second cake of the same color, you’ll start from the inside of that cake. So the whites meet in the middle. Do the same for each color block.
Foundation row starting from the outside of the cake, with Yarn A, Ch 151, bring up a loop in 2nd back bump from hook and in each back bump to end
Return Pass: Ch-1, * yo pull through 2 loops * repeat to end
Row 1 Tks in first vertical bar, *yo, sk st, Tks* , rep from * to * to last st, working the last st as for Lts, RetP
Row 2 *yo, sk st, Tks*, rep from * to * until 2 sts remain, yo, sk st, working the last st as for Lts, RetP
Rows 3 – on
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for each color block, Yarn A – D, remembering to start each new color on the outside of the cake and then the inside of the cake for the 2nd one of the same color, so the whites meet in the middle.
Last row of purple, Tslst across for bind off (shown in Moss stitch video)
Fasten off, weave in all ends, proceed to tassels
For tassels
Using a white yarn, (I used Pound of Love I had leftover), Cut 400 12 inch pieces of yarn, with 5 mm hook and 4 pieces of yarn held together, attach tassels on the ends every 2 chains. You should have around 100 tassels total.
Follow the tassel instructions from this video.
Enjoy your new blanket!

Did you find that you were getting a slant on the left side? I can't seem to figure out why mine is doing that or how to fix it, or if it's just common with this stitch.
