Tunisian Crochet Washcloth Pattern; Basketweave Stitch

Tunisian Crochet Washcloth Pattern; Basketweave Stitch

After experimenting with what feels like a hundred different stitch patterns for a Tunisian crochet washcloth, I finally found one that looks fantastic and doesn’t curl at all.

I’m back, once again, with another crochet washcloth pattern but this time it’s all about Tunisian crochet.

As you may know, I’ve posted a couple of washcloth/dishcloth patterns and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. They’re fun and quick to make, plus they make great gifts for friends and family.

I saw a couple of washcloths in store that featured a basket weave pattern of sorts. So that’s what I set out to make, but using Tunisian crochet.

There are several different ways to achieve this look using Tunisian, but after a few tries I decided the knit and purl stitch combination were my favorite.

More on that in a minute…

The Yarn + The Colors

So far for my crochet washcloths and dishcloths I’ve used Loops & Threads Cotton Blend from Michael’s.

I’ve used them quite a bit for cleaning and as a hand towel in the bathroom and after several uses and washes, they are still holding up well. Although I’ll admit I’m not 100% satisfied with them. It seems the more I wash them, the less they absorb moisture.

So, I plan on experimenting with a couple if different yarns next:

I’ll let you know what I think after I’ve tried these two.

The Tunisian Stitches

For this crochet washcloth pattern, I did a purl stitch edge and a combination of knit and purl stitches to create a basketweave-like look and feel.

Because of the combination of Tunisian stitches, this pattern did not curl at all, which is often a big problem with Tunisian crochet.

Although I love the way it turned out, the curling with the crochet Camping Blanket was a real pain in the beginning.

Tunisian Knit Stitch How-To

I do have a video on how to do the Tunisian knit stitch, which you can watch below. But I haven’t filmed one yet for the purl stitch.

For the purl stitch how to, I recommend watching this video.
