Raised Stitches Crochet Shawl Pattern
This was one of my designs that came together at the last minute. I had originally planned on doing the shawl in all one color – the Heartland Grand Canyon color – but then something happened.
I was organizing my yarn to see what all I had in stock and I picked up the Mandala Tweed Stripes yarn in Knock on Wood. I purchased it with no plan at the time. I just loved how it looked, loved the colors, and hadn’t done a crochet pattern with a tweed yarn yet.
I held the tweed yarn up to the Grand Canyon and it was a match made in heaven.
So after a little bit of frogging (aka ripping out stitches), I added the new color and the Raised Stitches Shawl really came together.
The Yarn
As I mentioned, I used two different colors and styles of yarn:
Lion Brand Heartland in Grand Canyon:
Lion Brand Mandala Tweed Stripes in Knock on Wood:
The Heartland yarn has become one of my favorites to work with. Part of it is because the colors are named after National Parks. Part of it is because of the softness and ease of working with it.
One of my most popular crochet patterns, The Linen Stitch Throw, is made with this same color.
The Crochet Shawl Pattern
I’m excited to release this as a free pattern and I can’t wait to see pictures of your finished shawl!
Description:
The Raised Stitches Shawl uses a combination of front post half double crochet and back post half double crochet to achieve the look of raised stitches on one side of the shawl.
Combining Heartland Grand Canyon yarn with Mandala Tweed stripes gives this yarn an incredibly warm, cozy look and feel. Finish it off with tassels for a shawl you’ll want to wear all the time.
Notes:
- Finished size measures without tassels: 32 1/2” x 64 1/2″
- This crochet shawl is made using the hdc, fphdc and bphdc
- Chain 1 does not count as a stitch
- Stitch counts are in ( ); for example (3) means you should have a total of 3 stitches
- 2hdc means 2 hdc in same stitch
- hdc 2 means hdc in next 2 stitches
