Yarn Used

For this project, I chose to use Lion Brand Pound of Love and Lion Brand Ferris Wheel yarns. These two yarns come together beautifully to create a scarf with an eye-catching contrast between the solid color and the multi-colored stripes of the roving yarn.

  • Lion Brand Pound of Love: This is a great choice for a solid, dependable base. It’s soft and lightweight, yet provides great warmth and structure to the scarf.
  • Lion Brand Ferris Wheel: Ferris Wheel adds a bit of magic to the project with its vibrant, self-striping colors and roving texture. This yarn transitions beautifully, giving the scarf a fun, colorful look without the need for constant color changes.

The combination of these yarns results in a scarf that is both visually stunning and functional. It’s thick enough to keep you warm, but the variety in texture makes it feel light and cozy around your neck.

Stitch Used

This scarf uses the Tunisian Half Double Crochet (THDC) Stitch, which is perfect for creating a dense, textured fabric that’s still flexible and soft.

If you’ve never tried Tunisian crochet before, this is a great project to start with! The THDC stitch is relatively simple to learn and gives the scarf its squishy, cozy texture.

Tunisian Half Double Crochet creates a nice, neat fabric with a bit of stretch, making it perfect for scarves. The best part is that the scarf holds its shape well and doesn’t curl, which is often a concern with Tunisian crochet.

You’ll need a Tunisian crochet hook with a long cable. Here are a few of my favorite sets:

For this scarf, I recommend a size 6.5mm Tunisian hook to achieve the perfect balance of stitch definition and drape.

Start with a Foundation Row: Begin by chaining any number of stitches. This will be your foundation row.

Forward Pass:

  • Step 1: Yarn over and insert your hook into the second back bump from the hook.
  • Step 2: Yarn over again and pull up a loop. Keep the loop on your hook.
  • Step 3: Continue this process across the chain – yarn over, insert the hook into the next back bump, yarn over, and pull up a loop, keeping all loops on the hook.

Return Pass:

  • Step 1: To start the return pass, yarn over and pull through one loop on the hook (this is essentially a chain 1).
  • Step 2: Then, yarn over and pull through three loops. Repeat this step (yarn over and pull through three loops) all the way across.

Subsequent Rows:

  • Step 1: Yarn over (skipping the first two vertical bars) and insert hook under both of the next two vertical bars, pull up a loop.
  • Step 2: Yarn over and insert hook under both of the next two vertical bars; continue all the way across until you get to the end.
