I’ve been in full-on decorate for fall mode.

It took a couple of weeks for the weather here in Texas to catch up to the fact that we all have fall and cooler temps on the brain. But it finally did and we’re soaking in some lows in the 50s and 60s.

As I started pulling out the crochet pumpkins I made a few years back, the fall leaves, and these placemats I purchased…something was missing.

A table runner.

And not just any table runner obviously. A crochet one.

The Alpine Crochet Table Runner works for all seasons.

The Stitches

Have you ever crocheted anything with the Alpine Stitch?

It might just be one of my new favorite stitches ever.

Not only is the texture incredible, but it gives your makes such a modern look.

Once you get the hang of the front post double crochet stitches, I think you’ll find this an easy and very enjoyable stitch.

Video Tutorial for the Crochet Alpine Stitch

Here’s a video tutorial for the Alpine Stitch.

One thing to note in our tutorial that is a little different than some others is that instead of working a double crochet in the last stitch on rows 3 & 5, you’ll work a half double crochet stitch.

Why? It gives the crochet table runner pattern a cleaner edge.

  • To change the width, chain a multiple of 2 + 2
  • ch 2 does count as stitch
  • ch 1 does not count as a stitch

  • In order to avoid curling, use loose tension when crocheting the Front post double crochet stitches. If you do it too tight, it will curl and the table runner will not lay flat.

Side 1: 2sc in first side st, working sc sts evenly along the side, ending with 2sc in last st

Side 2: 2sc in first st, working sc sts in each st, ending with 2sc in last st

Side 3: rep side 1

Side 4: rep side 2

Fasten off; weave in all ends

If your table runner is curling on the edges, wet blocking will help it lay flat and retain its shape.
