There’s a difference between a crochet gift you love the idea of making and one you can realistically finish before you need to give it.
A very important difference. Especially once your holiday list starts getting longer. 😉

I love making gifts with yarn, but I also know how easy it is to choose a beautiful pattern, picture the finished project, and skip the part where you actually have to crochet it.
So instead of giving you a giant list of patterns to scroll through, I’ve organized this gift guide around one question:
How much crochet time do you have?
Maybe you have an evening and want a small, thoughtful gift. Maybe you have a weekend and would love to make a hat, a set of washcloths, or even a chunky blanket. Or maybe you’re ready to start something a little bigger for someone extra special.
Here are some of my favorite I Can Crochet That patterns for each situation, with yarn details, sizing information, and ideas for who might enjoy them.
Before You Choose: A Quick Note About Time
“One evening” and “one weekend” are planning categories, not promises. Your crochet speed, the size you’re making, and whether you’re learning a new stitch will all affect how long a project takes.
If you’re a brand-new crocheter, give yourself extra time. Learning the stitches is part of the project, too!
And don’t forget the finishing: seaming, weaving in ends and all those extra finising touches.

One Evening: Small Crochet Gifts With a Lovely Finish
Easy Twisted Crochet Headband

Choose this when you want a small, wearable gift without complicated shaping.
This headband starts as a narrow rectangle. A folded seam creates the twist, while slip stitches and half double crochet give it a pretty, stretchy texture.
It makes a lovely stocking stuffer, and you can choose a favorite everyday color or a festive seasonal shade.
- Make it for: Someone who enjoys a simple hair accessory.
- Skill level: Beginner; includes back-loop stitches and a sewn twist.
- Yarn: Category 4 yarn. My sample uses Lion Brand Color Theory in Bee Pollen.
- Sizing: Toddler, Child, Teen/Adult Small, and Adult Medium. Finished lengths before seaming range from 15¼ to 20 inches; width is approximately 1¾ inches.
Want more coverage? Add rows to turn the narrow headband into a wider ear warmer.

Tunisian Waffle Stitch Ear Warmer

Choose this when you want cozy texture and a beautiful yarn combination.
This ear warmer pairs a solid yarn with a colorful yarn. The solid helps define the waffle pattern while the changing colors add interest.
If you already know the stitch, this is a satisfying small project. If Tunisian crochet is new to you, give yourself extra time to follow the tutorials and practice first.
- Make it for: An adult who prefers an ear warmer to a winter hat.
- Skill level: Comfortable with Tunisian basics, or ready to learn with video support.
- Yarn: Two category 4 yarns. The sample uses approximately 50 yards of Big Twist Value Pound Plus and 38 yards of Red Heart Roll With It Mélange.
- Sizing: The published sample measures approximately 3¾ inches wide by 20 inches long before seaming.

Waffle Stitch Crochet Dishcloth

Choose this when you want a useful gift with beautiful texture.
A cotton dishcloth might sound simple, but that waffle texture makes it feel special. Pair one with a pretty dish soap dispenser or a little kitchen accessory, and you have a thoughtful gift without a huge project commitment.
Once you’re comfortable with front post double crochet, one dishcloth is a great evening project.
- Make it for: A host, neighbor, teacher, or someone setting up a new home.
- Skill level: Confident beginner; uses double crochet and front post double crochet.
- Yarn: Approximately 186 yards of Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, category 4, per dishcloth.
- Finished size: Approximately 12 by 12 inches.
This is also a nice way to practice waffle stitch before committing to a whole blanket.

Easy Crochet Dish Towels

Choose this when you want a simple repeat and a practical gift.
These towels use half double crochet worked in the back loop to create a clean, ribbed texture. There’s also an optional hanging loop.
Depending on your crochet speed and how much time you have, you could make one—or keep going and make a coordinating pair!
- Make them for: Someone who appreciates useful handmade kitchen gifts.
- Skill level: Beginner.
- Yarn: Category 4 cotton. The pattern lists two skeins of Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton per kitchen towel.
- Sizing: Approximately 18 by 13 inches for the kitchen towel, with an 8-by-8-inch washcloth option included.
Choose colors that work with the recipient’s kitchen, fold them together, and add a care tag.

One Weekend: Matching Accessories and Giftable Sets
Mosaic Star Stitch Hat, Ear Warmer, and Fingerless Gloves

Choose this when you want coordinating gift options.
This trio gives you three ways to use the same beautiful star-stitch texture: a hat, an ear warmer, and fingerless gloves.
You don’t have to make all three. Choose one piece for a smaller gift, pair the gloves with an ear warmer, or start with the hat and add matching pieces as time allows.
All three use regular crochet, and you'll work the pieces flat and seam them.
- Make them for: Someone who loves coordinated winter accessories.
- Skill level: Confident beginner, with tutorials to help you learn the star stitch.
- Yarn: Caron Simply Me Mosaic, category 5 bulky. The hat uses approximately 111–164 yards depending on size; the glove sample uses approximately 108 yards per pair. Check the individual patterns before buying yarn for a set.
- Sizing: Hat sizes run from Baby through Large Adult. The ear warmer includes six sizes from Baby through Adult Large/XL. The gloves’ paid PDF includes four sizes from Toddler through Adult Large.
Make one piece during a weekend, or plan more crochet time if you’re giving a matching set.
Choose your pattern:
Tunisian Crochet Fingerless Gloves

Choose these for a smaller gift that combines regular and Tunisian crochet.
These gloves pair regular crochet ribbing with Tunisian knit stitch. Work them flat and seam them with an opening for the thumb, so you don’t have to crochet individual fingers.
Make both before you move on to another project. One glove is progress. Two gloves are a gift. 😉
- Make them for: An adult who likes having their fingers free while wearing gloves.
- Skill level: Adventurous beginner.
- Yarn: Approximately 83 yards of Pound of Love and 34 yards of Roll With It Mélange for the pair, both category 4.
- Sizing: One average-adult-hand size, with adjustment notes.

A Set of Textured Crochet Washcloths

Choose these for a gift for the kitchen, bathroom, or a little spa basket.
These washcloths use the Mixed Loop Stitch, the same stitch featured in the Avery Blanket. The texture comes from where you insert your hook, not from a complicated stitch combination.
Make a small set in coordinating colors, then pair it with soap or tuck it into a pretty basket.
- Make them for: Someone who enjoys useful handmade gifts or a little at-home pampering.
- Skill level: Beginner-friendly, with a stitch tutorial and berry-stitch border tutorial.
- Yarn: One skein of Knit Picks Dishie per washcloth. For a set of three, plan on three skeins.
- Finished size: Approximately 11 by 11 inches per cloth.

The Getaway Infinity Scarf

Choose this when you want an easy scarf with beautiful drape.
The Getaway uses herringbone half double crochet in the back loop. Work it flat and seam it into a loop, with a repeat that’s easy to settle into once you’ve learned the stitch.
A favorite neutral makes it an everyday accessory, while a brighter color turns it into a statement piece.
- Make it for: Someone who likes a versatile scarf they can wear with different coats and outfits.
- Skill level: Easy/beginner, with a herringbone half double crochet tutorial.
- Yarn: Category 4 yarn; the current sample uses Loops & Threads in Mustard. Follow the pattern’s materials list when gathering supplies.
- Sizing: Approximately 9 inches wide by 70 inches long before seaming.

Finley-Inspired Crochet Infinity Scarf

Choose this for someone who loves soft, textured accessories.
If you like the Finley Blanket, this scarf brings its bean-stitch texture into a wearable project. Half-double crochet sections break up the bean-stitch sections, and you seam the finished rectangle into a loop.
Think of this as a weekend with generous crochet time or several relaxed evenings.
- Make it for: An adult scarf lover who enjoys a double-wrap style.
- Skill level: Confident beginner/intermediate.
- Yarn: Three skeins of Lion Brand Wool-Ease DK, approximately 696 yards.
- Sizing: Approximately 8 inches wide by 77 inches long before seaming.

The Cora Chunky Blanket

Choose this when you want to give a blanket but need the quickest blanket option.
Cora is probably the fastest of all my blanket patterns.
The chunky yarn, larger hook, and simple stitch repeat make it go quickly. You only need half double crochet, alternating between the front and back loops to create that lovely texture.
I’d consider this a crochet-filled weekend project rather than a last-minute evening make. Give yourself extra time if you’re still learning or want to add fringe.
- Make it for: Someone who loves a warm, chunky throw for their sofa or favorite chair.
- Skill level: Beginner-friendly; uses half double crochet with different loop placement.
- Yarn: Nine skeins of Lion Brand Hue + Me, category 5 bulky; approximately 1,233 yards.
- Finished size: Approximately 40 by 52½ inches, without fringe.

Have Several Crochet Sessions? Try a Cozy Looped Scarf
Tunisian Puff Stitch Infinity Scarf

Choose this for someone who loves a generous, wrap-yourself-up accessory.
Self-striping yarn handles the color changes while the puff stitches create the texture.
I would give this one more breathing room than a headband or hat, especially if you’re learning the stitch. It’s a substantial accessory, not a tiny last-minute project.
- Make it for: An adult who likes a fuller infinity scarf.
- Skill level: Intermediate Tunisian crochet, with stitch and finishing videos.
- Yarn: Approximately two cakes of Lion Brand Mandala, category 3; about 1,180 yards.
- Sizing: Approximately 12 inches wide by 64½ inches long before seaming, with adjustment notes.

Start Now: Blankets for Someone Extra Special
“Start now” doesn’t mean difficult. These patterns have approachable repeats, but a larger project still deserves room in your schedule.
Choose the blanket you’ll enjoy making, gather your yarn, and leave time for the finishing.
The Finley Throw

Choose this when you want a beginner-friendly blanket with plenty of texture.
People have told me they worked up the Finley fairly quickly and found it perfect for beginners. That’s one of my favorite things to hear: a project can look impressive without feeling overwhelming.
The blanket combines bean-stitch sections with half double crochet and is worked lengthwise.
- Make it for: Someone who loves a textured throw for their living room or bedroom.
- Skill level: Beginner-friendly for someone ready to learn the bean stitch, with tutorial support.
- Yarn: Three skeins of Lion Brand Pound of Love, category 4. The sample uses approximately 2½ skeins, or about 2,550 yards.
- Finished size: Approximately 45 by 53 inches.
If you’ve been wanting to give a blanket but don’t want a complicated stitch pattern, Finley is a lovely place to start.
The Estes Blanket

Choose this when you want simple stitching and beautiful self-striping color.
Estes is one of those blankets people can’t seem to make just once.
The linen stitch, also called moss stitch, uses single crochet and chains. Pair it with self-striping yarn, and you can enjoy watching the colors unfold without manually changing yarns for every stripe.
Make one in the recipient’s favorite colors—or plan several in different colorways for different people. Set a realistic schedule for each blanket!
- Make it for: Someone who loves a lightweight throw for the sofa, porch, or camping trips.
- Skill level: Beginner-friendly; uses single crochet, chains, and working into chain spaces.
- Yarn: Four cakes of Lion Brand Mandala, category 3; approximately 2,360 yards, plus a small amount of coordinating yarn for fringe.
- Finished size: Approximately 36 by 58½ inches.
Avery Crochet Baby Blanket

Choose this for an easy repeat with colorful, squishy results.
The Avery uses half double crochet worked into alternating loops. Once you learn where to insert your hook, the one-row repeat is wonderfully straightforward.
Self-striping yarn handles the colors, so you can focus on the stitching.
- Make it for: A baby shower, a new grandbaby, or a family welcoming a little one.
- Skill level: Beginner-friendly; practice identifying the front bottom loop and back loop first.
- Yarn: Three cakes of Caron Big Cakes; approximately 1,800 yards for the sample.
- Finished size: Approximately 37 by 47 inches.

Waffle Stitch Fringed Throw

Choose this for someone who always reaches for a cozy blanket during a movie.
The waffle stitch creates a deeply textured fabric, and fringe finishes the ends.
This is regular crochet rather than Tunisian crochet. If front post double crochet is new to you, the small waffle dishcloth earlier in this guide makes a wonderful practice project before starting the throw.
- Make it for: Someone who loves a cozy reading chair, movie night, or a warm lap blanket.
- Skill level: Confident beginner ready to learn post stitches.
- Yarn: Approximately 2,550 yards of Lion Brand Pound of Love, category 4. Plan to have three standard skeins available.
- Finished size: Approximately 37½ by 52 inches, excluding fringe.

Still Deciding? Choose the Gift That Fits Your Time
If you’re having trouble narrowing it down, start here:
- For a small stocking stuffer: Make the twisted headband.
- For a host or neighbor: Choose a dish towel, waffle dishcloth, or coaster set.
- For a little pampering gift: Make a coordinating set of textured washcloths.
- For matching winter accessories: Choose from the Mosaic Star Stitch trio.
- For an everyday scarf: Try the Getaway.
- For your quickest blanket option: Choose Cora.
- For approachable texture: Try Finley.
- For someone who loves color: Make Estes in a colorway that reminds you of them.
- For a new baby gift: Choose Avery.
You don’t have to make the biggest project for it to be thoughtful. A useful gift, a favorite color, and careful finishing all matter.
Make It Gift-Ready
Before you wrap your crochet gift:
- Check the seams and weave in every end.
- Wash and dry (if you want!) only as the yarn label recommends, allowing enough time for the item to dry completely.
- Add a care tag with the fiber content and washing instructions.
- Include helpful details, such as removing a pom before washing.
For kitchen and bath sets, a simple ribbon or paper band can bring everything together. A washcloth paired with soap or a dishtowel set paired with wooden utensils makes a small crochet project feel like a complete gift.
We have some funny gift-tag options if you and your recipient share the same sense of humor. 🙂 Check them out here.
