If you've ever picked up a colorful cake of yarn and wondered what to make with it, this post is for you!

I've been having so much fun experimenting with Red Heart Roll With It Mélange, and it's quickly become one of my favorite yarns to use when I want lots of color without constantly changing yarns.
I've used it to make everything from cozy scarves and fingerless gloves to a blanket and an ear warmer. And one of the things I love most is how different it looks depending on the stitch and project.
Today I'm sharing five crochet projects I've made with this yarn. Hopefully, they'll give you some inspiration for your next project!
A Little About Red Heart Roll With It Mélange
Red Heart Roll With It Mélange is a worsted-weight (category 4), 100% acrylic yarn with beautiful blended color changes.
Each 5.29-ounce cake contains approximately 389 yards, making it a fun option for everything from smaller accessories to larger projects.
What I especially love about this yarn is the way the colors blend together. Instead of having to figure out which colors look good together, the yarn does that work for you!
I've also found that pairing it with a solid-colored yarn creates some really interesting effects. You'll see that in several of the projects below.

1. The Colorplay Tunisian Crochet Sweater Scarf

This sweater scarf is one of those projects that's both fun to make and practical to wear.
It's basically a scarf with sleeves, making it a cozy option when you want something warmer than a regular scarf but don't necessarily need a full sweater.
For this version, I paired Roll With It Mélange with a solid-colored yarn, alternating the two every Tunisian crochet row.
I love how this technique softens the color changes and creates a completely different look than using the colorful yarn on its own.
The pattern uses Tunisian half double crochet, and I've included a video tutorial to help you along the way.

2. Tunisian Crochet Field Stitch Blanket Scarf

If you love oversized, cozy scarves, this one is for you!
The Tunisian field stitch creates a beautiful textured fabric with a subtle woven appearance. It's a fun way to show off the colors in Roll With It Mélange while adding plenty of stitch detail.
I especially love how the colorful yarn brings out the texture of this stitch.
It's a great project for anyone who wants to try a different Tunisian crochet stitch while making something they'll actually use.

3. Tunisian Crochet Fingerless Gloves

These might be one of my favorite smaller projects using this yarn!
The gloves combine a solid-colored ribbed cuff with Tunisian knit stitch, giving them that beautiful knitted appearance even though they're crocheted.
I alternated Roll With It Mélange with a solid yarn to create the colorful stitches you see throughout the gloves.
They're worked flat and then seamed, so you don't have to worry about crocheting in the round.
And because they use such a small amount of the colorful yarn, they're a great way to use up leftovers from a larger project.
The free pattern also includes a step-by-step video tutorial.

4. The Goldie Crochet Blanket

Of course, I had to make a blanket with this yarn!
The Goldie Blanket combines two simple crochet stitches: the bean stitch and single crochet.
By alternating a solid-colored yarn with Roll With It Mélange, you get a blanket full of texture and color without having to create complicated stitch patterns.
This is one of my favorite ways to use colorful yarn. The solid color helps balance everything out while still letting those beautiful color changes shine.
The pattern is written for multiple blanket sizes, so you can make anything from a small baby blanket to a larger throw.

5. Tunisian Crochet Waffle Stitch Ear Warmer

If you're looking for a smaller project, this Tunisian crochet waffle stitch ear warmer is a fun one to try.
The waffle stitch creates a thick, squishy fabric that's perfect for keeping your ears warm on chilly days.
I used a solid-colored yarn alongside Roll With It Mélange to highlight the stitch texture and add little pops of color throughout.
It's also a great stash-busting project because you don't need much yarn to make one.
The free pattern includes video tutorials for the stitch, color changes, and twisted seam.

Why I Love Using Colorful Yarn With Solid Colors
You might have noticed that several of these projects combine Roll With It Mélange with a solid-colored yarn.
That's intentional!
One of my favorite tricks for working with colorful yarn is to pair it with a solid color.
It can soften busy color changes, help certain stitches stand out, and create a completely different look than you'd get using the colorful yarn alone.
And the best part? You don't need complicated stitches or techniques to get beautiful results.
Sometimes the simplest combinations are the ones I love most.
Which Project Would You Make First?

Whether you're in the mood for a cozy blanket, a wearable scarf, or a quick pair of fingerless gloves, there are so many fun ways to use Red Heart Roll With It Mélange.
And I'm not finished experimenting with it yet! I'll keep adding new projects to this post as I make them.
