The Griffin blanket comes together combining self-striping yarn, a solid color yarn, and two different Tunisian crochet stitches.
This striped Tunisian crochet blanket pattern whips up quickly and easily and will look beautiful on your patio, RV, campervan, or home.

I may have a problem and it has to do with self-striping yarn. I can’t stop buying it and I can’t stop creating patterns with it. But it’s a love affair I am 100% here for and I hope you’re loving it too.
Here are a few patterns I’ve designed with self-striping yarn, just to prove my obsession love for it:
The Bryn Blanket – This Tunisian crochet blanket alternates between the self-striping yarn and a solid color
The Let’s Go Camping Blanket – Yet another Tunisian crochet pattern but this one is worked up completely in a self-striping yarn. It’s easy. It turns out beautiful and it looks dang good next to a campfire.
The Ethan Throw – Yep, it’s another Tunisian crochet pattern. I just.can’t.stop. This one also alternates between a self-striping yarn and a solid color, but is worked up in a more intricate stitch pattern.
The Aloha Throw – During the beginning of the pandemic, my husband, our youngest son and I decided to move to Hawaii for a year. Because that’s normal behavior, right? Anyway, this blanket is a result of that move.
The Autumn Ombre Scarf – Whoa! It’s not a blanket. What is happening here? This is the first self-striping yarn pattern I designed and it’s still one of my favorites.
Ok, now that I’ve proved my love affair with self-striping yarn, how about we get to the details of the Griffin Blanket.
The Griffin Blanket – A Striped Tunisian Crochet Blanket Pattern
I’ve been experimenting over the last few weeks with different textured Tunisian crochet stitches.
I’ve always loved the look of blankets that combine different textures and so I wanted to find one that would look great with the classic-looking knit stitch.
That’s when I found the Tunisian reverse stitch.
This stitch is most often used at the beginning of a Tunisian crochet project to prevent curling. But I wanted to see what it would look like used throughout a blanket.
So after a little swatch-making and experimenting, I came up with this pattern.
In all honesty, I was worried if it would look right using it with a self-striping yarn.
The reverse stitch rows don’t coincide with the changing of the stripe colors, but after the blanket grew a little larger, I realized that I love the randomness of it.
Here are the yarn colors I used:
Lion Brand’s Mandala Yarn in Centaur – purchase on LionBrand.com here and Amazon here
Lion Brand’s Pound of Love in Vanilla – purchase on LionBrand.com here and Amazon here (but they currently do not have Vanilla in stock)
There are so many different gorgeous Mandala yarn colors, as well as Pound of Love. It would be so fun to see some other color combinations, so feel free to experiment and tag me on your socials. I would love to see them!

The Griffin Blanket Pattern
Description: The Griffin blanket is a Tunisian crochet blanket pattern featuring two different stitches: a classic stitch and a textured stitch. It uses a combination of self-striping yarn and solid color which makes the stripes stand out even more. The end result is a beautifully striped blanket with a squishy texture you’ll love curling up under.
This blanket is easy enough for a beginner with just a little bit of Tunisian crochet knowledge.
Notes:
- Finished size measures 41″ wide x 63 1/2″ long
- To change the length, simply add more rows continuing with the pattern
- To change the width, simply add more chains
- Color change is made after the Return Pass

- This pattern uses 4 cakes of Lion Brand’s Mandala yarn and a partial skein of Lion Brand’s Pound of Love yarn, so you will have quite a bit of Pound of Love yarn leftover. I recommend saving it for a scrapghan, granny squares or you might decide to add a border or fringe to this blanket.
