Add a little boho flair to your dinner table with these Round Fringe Crochet Placemats.
Boho Fringe Round Placemats | Free Crochet Pattern
I remember way back in 1996 receiving quite a few placemats as wedding gifts. It was funny and ironic to receive so many placemats because Todd and I didn’t even own a dining room table to put said placemats on.
But after we bought that table, or more than likely, accepted it second-hand, I used those placemats over and over again.

I remember being so excited about having a table that I kept it set with placemats, dishes, and cutlery all the time. Finally a friend of ours asked if he either always came over while we were about to eat or if our table was set all the time. (Which he thought was super weird.)
It’s funny how something as simple as placemats can spur on some great memories. Three kids and 24 years of marriage later and I no longer keep our table set.
But I still love to use placemats every now and then. Because why not be a little fancy…even if you’re just eating delivery pizza?
Inspiration and Design Process
As I was scrolling through Pinterest, I saw these round placemats with fringe from Anthropologie and instantly knew I wanted to crochet something very similar.
So I did.
And I love them.
But no, I did not start keeping the table set all the time because of my love for them.
How to Crochet a Circle
My first attempt at crocheting a circle was not a success. Instead of a circle, I had created a hexagon. Which didn’t look too bad really, but I wanted a circle.
So after trying several different tutorials and some trial and error, I found a pattern that worked for me.
Here’s a quick video which shows you how to crochet a circle.
The Stitch
This pattern uses very simple and basic crochet stitches and skills: the single crochet, the slip stitch and chain 1.
The Colors + The Yarn
I purchased Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Black and Fisherman before I even knew what I was doing with them. They were on sale so I snatched up a couple of skeins and hoped the perfect project would reveal itself.
For this pattern, I decided to mix white with black, but I think it would look just as good making an all-white or all-black placemat. Or, switch up the colors even more and do a red or blue trim.
