Create a cozy, striped corner-to-corner Tunisian crochet baby blanket with this pattern, made by holding two strands of yarn together. Perfect for beginners and seasoned crocheters alike, this project promises a snuggly finish for your little one.
This is our second Tunisian corner-to-corner blanket design. While I still love the first one for its ease and softness, something about this new design has me oh so excited. It probably has to do with the fact that I finally found a use for Lion Brand’s Mandala String yarn I ordered last year!

As I mentioned, last year, I ordered 6 skeins of the Mandala String Yarn without knowing what I would do with them. I’m pretty obsessed with self-striping yarn (sign up here to receive our free self-striping yarn eBook with two exclusive patterns!) and have quite a few patterns designed with it.
Here are just a few: (OK, more than a few!)
- Autumn Ombre Scarf Pattern
- The “Let’s Go Camping” Blanket Pattern (Tunisian)
- The Rainbow Blanket Pattern (Tunisian)
- The Byrn Blanket Pattern (Tunisian)
- The Griffin Blanket Pattern (Tunisian)
- The Penny Blanket Pattern (Striped Corner to Corner Regular Crochet)
- The Estes Blanket (A Crochet Camping Blanket Pattern)
- The Ethan Blanket (Tunisian)
After receiving the string yarn, I experimented endlessly, finally putting it aside and giving up for a bit. I just couldn’t come up with something I liked.
Until I decided to combine it with another yarn. And voila! I fell in love with the results.

DESCRIPTION:
Corner to Corner Tunisian Crochet Baby Blanket – The Vivia
This Tunisian crochet baby blanket is made by holding two strands of yarn together. It starts with just a few stitches and includes increase and decrease rows. It’s very beginner-friendly and the self-striping string yarn does the color change work for you. Because of the two strands of yarn, this blanket is very dense and a little heavier than your average crochet baby blanket.
THE PATTERN:
Foundation row Chain 3, pull up a loop in back bump of second chain from hook and remaining ch, (3 loops on hook), RetP
Increase rows begin
Row 1 Yo, Tss in 1st stitch, yo, inserting hook as for Lts on the last st, (5 loops on hook), RetP
Row 2 Yo, Tss across to last st, yo, inserting hook as for Lts on the last st, (7 loops on hook), RetP
Rows 3 – 94 Repeat Row 2
Decrease rows begin
Row 95 Tss2tog, Tss across to last 3 sts, Tss2tog, inserting hook as for Lts on the last st, RetP
Rows 96 – 185 Repeat row 95
Row 186 *Tss2tog* two times, (3 loops on hook), RetP
Row 187 Tslst (Insert hook under last two sts, yo, pull through all loops on hook)
To finish
Do not fasten off. Proceed to border instructions.
For border
Continuing with both yarns held together, switch to 5.5 mm crochet hook
Side 1: ch1, sc2 in first st, sc in every st along the side, sc2 in 2 corner sts (meaning you’ll have four sc in the corners to create a nice rounded look)
Sides 2 & 3: repeat side 1
Side 4: sc in every stitch along the side, sc2 in last st, slst to first sc from side 1
Fasten off, weave in all ends
Enjoy your new baby blanket!
