Have You Tried Tunisian Crochet?

Have you tried Tunisian crochet yet? When I first tried it, I wasn’t sold on this crochet style at all. The stitches were messy and overall it just didn’t look like something that was for me.

But I kept practicing and then eventually one day, it just seemed to click.

And then I couldn’t stop!

Here are a few Tunisian crochet patterns on I Can Crochet That:

Needless to say, I’m hooked on Tunisian crochet.

Tunisian Crochet Basics

For this crochet blanket pattern, you need to know the basics of Tunisian crochet. Here’s what you need to know, along with where you can find tutorials:

  • Tunisian Simple Stitch Video here.
  • Tunisian Knit Stitch Video here.
  • Tunisian Purl Stitch Video here.
  • Tunisian Rib Stitch Video here.
  • How to change colors on Return Pass video here. You’ll need this technique for two of the sections. This gives it a woven look.
  • How to change colors on Forward Pass video here. You’ll need this technique for the alternating black and white knit stitches sections.

This blanket is the perfect pattern for you to practice some of these stitches and techniques.

Description

The Tunisian Crochet Nordic Blanket makes quite the statement with its bold black and white colors. I can picture this blanket for someone who heads out on the weekends in their campervan or out for an overnight tent camping trip.

The Pattern

Note: This blanket is whipped up using three basic Tunisian stitches, Tunisian Simple Stitch, Tunisian Purl Stitch and Tunisian Knit Stitch. Some of the color changes are started on the Return Pass and some are started on the Forward Pass.

Each row includes the Return Pass, but it is not stated. I have noted when you need to change colors before the return pass.

The ends of the blanket are created with a rib stitch, which is alternating the Tunisian Knit Stitch and Purl Stitch in sets of two.
